Almaden Valley is a beautiful South San Jose neighborhood tucked in a gorgeous mountain range stretching from the Santa Teresa Hills to the east and the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west. This peaceful neighborhood features a landscape of serene rolling hillsides with many nearby trails and outdoor recreation areas. Almaden Valley offers its residents a quiet retreat within easy reach of employment opportunities and amenities throughout Silicon Valley and San Jose. This upper-middle-class neighborhood also boasts some of the best public schools in the San Jose Unified School District.

The Almaden Expressway bisects the community, and the journey to Downtown San Jose can be completed within around 20 minutes.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, and retailers are primarily located along Almaden Expressway and near Blossom Hill Road and Highway 85 to the north of the Valley. Almaden Valley Nursery is a large family-run garden center selling a wide variety of plants and gardening supplies. Legends Pizza is a local favorite for delicious pies, draft beer, and live sports. Charlie’s Cheesecake Works offers gourmet cheesecakes and a tempting range of mini desserts. Almaden Center on the Almaden Expressway features an Ace Hardware and a Safeway grocery store. The adjacent Country Inn Café is a classic American diner with tasty breakfast and lunch plates. Businesses at Almaden Via Valiente Plaza include a CVS Pharmacy, Pomodoro Pizza, and bubble tea shop T4. Princeton Plaza Mall on Blossom Hill Road features Korean fried chicken spot Bonchon, authentic Chinese eatery Mandarin House, Persian grocery store and deli Etminan Market, and art and hobby supply store Michaels.

Things to Do

Almaden Valley offers lots of parks and outdoor recreational amenities. Boulder Ridge Golf Club at the northern end of the neighborhood features a scenic 18-hole golf course, a driving range, and a patio for outdoor dining. Almaden Golf and Country Club offers a championship golf course on an exquisite 135-acre course, which hosts events for the LPGA and Nike Tour. The club’s practice facilities include a large driving range, bunkers, and pitching and putting greens. Other amenities include a fitness center with a swimming pool and two lighted tennis courts. The entire southern portion of Almaden Valley is covered by the 4,163-acre Almaden Quicksilver County Park. This sprawling park is named for the quicksilver mines, which have been a dominant activity here for over 135 years. The park is now a peaceful destination with 37 miles of picturesque hiking trails. Thirty miles of these trails are suitable for horseback riding, and there’s also 16.6 miles of bike trails. Along Almaden Valley’s northeastern boundary, Santa Teresa County Park spans 1,673 acres with a diverse landscape of grassland and oak woodland. Santa Teresa County Park has 17 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The park also features an 18-hole golf course at Santa Teresa Golf Club and an archery range operated by the Black Mountain Bowmen Archery Club. Just southeast of Almaden Valley, 4,471-acre Calero Reservoir County Park offers 18.9 miles of trails and lots of water-based recreation, including boating, fishing, and water-skiing. The 7.7-mile Mount Umunhum Trail climbs 1,200 feet to one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Sweeping views from the top take in all of Silicon Valley, Mount Hamilton, and Mount Diablo. On clear days, you can see San Francisco, Monterey Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.
