Hollister is considered part of the Monterey Bay region, and both the Monterey Bay coastline and San Jose are around a 40 minutes’ drive away. The surrounding mountainsides provide lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation, including the popular Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area in the Gabriel Mountains to the southwest.
