Hollister’s population has more than tripled since 1980. The city is now the largest in the Central Coast region, with a population of 38,687 people. Hollister is surrounded by a picturesque pastoral landscape. The elevated position of the city’s homes in the Diablo Range foothills provides sweeping views over the rolling scenery. Hollister is considered part of the Monterey Bay region, and both the Monterey Bay coastline and San Jose are around a 40 minutes’ drive away. The surrounding mountainsides provide lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation, including the popular Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area in the Gabriel Mountains to the southwest.

Leal Vineyards and Winery is a beautiful destination often used for weddings. Visitors to the vineyards can sample award-winning Bordeaux varietals in a romantic setting with sweeping views over the Central Coast’s northern foothills.
The Grove is a farm-to-table restaurant, bakery, and market at Leal Vineyards, featuring a picturesque outdoor patio shaded by olive trees. Just south of Hollister on California State Route 25,
The Inn at Tres Pinos pairs elegant land and sea entrees with an extensive selection of regional wines. The Inn was built in 1880 and was originally a rowdy frontier dining and drinking spot frequented by cowboys and teamsters. This historic establishment is now one of the finest places in the region to sample delicious meals prepared with fresh local ingredients. Hollister is also within a short drive of San Juan, where popular restaurants include

The gorgeous Central Coast scenery surrounding Hollister provides lots of scenic outdoor recreation areas.
Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area extends over 4,100 acres with more than 150 miles of trails for motorcycles, ATVs, and four-wheel-drive vehicles. The SVRA also features picnic areas, campgrounds, and motocross, TT, ATV, and mini-bike trails and practice tracks. Hollister is just a close drive from other popular destinations, including the historic Mission and village of
San Juan Bautista, and stunning coastal destinations such as
Carmel-by-the-Sea and
Monterey. The artsy seaside communities of Carmel and Monterey feature white sand beaches, upscale shopping and dining, and premier annual events, including the summertime
Carmel Beach Festival and
the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Hollister Municipal Airport is a private executive airport used for around 200 flights every day.
